動くワニガメ模型・撮影用の動物は本物でなくダミーを作って思い通りに操作する

今回紹介するのは、動きのある動物模型の作り方です。
動物を物語の中に登場させる場合、私は大抵、模型を作って使います。今回の例はカメです。
リアルに作るだけということであれば、石粉粘土で全体を作ってしまうのが一番楽ですが、石粉粘土で作った模型は硬いので動きません。
撮影時に体を動かす場合は、柔らかい素材で作る必要があります。
甲羅以外の柔らかい部分をゴムで作るため、甲羅がない状態の体を油粘土で作って、石膏の型を作っています。
これはパーツが3つに分かれています。立体的なものの形を作るときには、パーツをこうやっていくつかに分割して作ります。
次は、石膏の型にゴムを塗り込みます。
ゴムは液体のラテックスゴム。
造形用の素材として売られています。これを型の内側に塗り込みます。
分割して作ったゴムの部品を張り合わせて立体の模型にします。
カメの背中の甲羅の部分については、撮影時に同じものをいくつか必要だったので、これもやはり石膏で型を作って、その内側に薄く伸ばした石粉粘土を押し付けて型から抜いています。そうすると同じ形のものがいくつも作れます。

ここから細い針金を出して4つの足に接続して、裏側から動かすことでワニガメが歩いている動きを表現しています。
これをグリーンバック撮影して合成して映像を作ろうというわけです。
この作品の中では、ワニガメが歩いている場面は、生け簀（いけす）の中で歩いているという設定なんですね。
その生け簀も合成用にミニチュアで作っています。
簡単にスチロール板で箱を作って、その内側に水で溶いて柔らかくした石糞粘土を塗りつけてコンクリートのような質感にしています。
これを塗装して、合成用の生け簀のミニチュアセットを作りました。

If you just want to make it realistic, it is easiest to make the whole with stone powder clay, but the model made with stone powder clay is hard and does not move.
If you want to move your body during shooting, it should be made of soft material.
Since the soft parts other than the shell are made of rubber, the body without the shell is made of oil clay and a plaster mold is made.
This is divided into 3 parts. When making a three-dimensional shape, the parts are divided into several parts like this.
Next, apply rubber to the plaster mold.
Liquid latex rubber.
It is sold as a molding material. Apply this to the inside of the mold.

For the shell on the turtle’s back, I needed several pieces of the same type at the time of filming, so I made a plaster mold for this as well, pressed a thin layer of gypsum clay on the inside, and pulled it out of the mold. That way, you can make many of the same shape.
Color each part. The paint uses water-based acrylic paint.
I am making a simple turtle model by pasting this hard shell part on a turtle body made of rubber.
Prepare a wire for fixing to the pedestal.
This is a pedestal for taking pictures of alligator turtles walking.
