面倒な分、満足度が高い映画作りの趣味
永らく構想を練っていた、「DIY映画倶楽部」のご紹介です。
DIY映画倶楽部は、映画制作の同好会です。
そもそもは、私自身が18歳頃から、かれこれ30年以上「自主制作映画」という趣味を続けてきて、その面白さを知っているので、「映像制作仲間を増やしたい」という動機があります。
当時に比べ、格安で（ほぼ無料でも）映像制作環境が手に入る現在、映画のようなストーリー映像を誰でも作れる条件が揃っています。
でも、ほとんどの人はその楽しさを体験していません。
確かに、映像制作は「面倒」です。
酒を飲んで、パーッと楽しむ、というような手軽な楽しみ方が出来る遊びではありません。
ですから、「面倒なことは嫌い」という人には全く向かない趣味であることは確かです。
- プラモデルを作るのは面倒
- 写真を撮りに出かけるのは面倒
- 誰かが用意してくれた娯楽を買えば充分
そういう気質の人には、全く理解されない趣味だと思います。
しかし、労力を費やすことで大きな楽しみ、満足感を得られることを知っている人もいます。
- 教室、習い事に通って、新しい体験を楽しむ人
- 毎日コツコツとトレーニングして、理想の身体を作っている人
- 模型づくりを楽しめる人
- 練習をして発表会で成果を披露する人
こういう人は、間違いなく楽しめるのが映画作りの趣味です。
何故、映像制作が普及しないか考えてみた
ビデオ撮影・編集の環境はすでに整っているのに、どうして映像制作という趣味が、写真撮影のように、プラモデル作りのように普及しないのか、考えていたことがあります。
ビデオカメラは充分に普及していて、旅行や運動会などで使うことは珍しくありません。
なぜ、その延長で「映像作りをしてみよう」という人があまり出てこないのか。
私の仮説はこうです。
本来、使い方が難しい、ビデオカメラの「ズーム機能」を多用してしまうことで、ストレスの溜まる「見ていられない映像」が量産され、
- ビデオは良くない
- 写真のほうが良い
と実感する人が多くなった。
このように、ビデオカメラで苦い思いをした人たちに、「ビデオ映像の魅力」を再発見してもらうためには、「ストレスの溜まらない映像作り」を「撮影」「編集」の両面から伝えることが必要と思い、オンライン講座も作って販売もしています。
しかし、その一歩先、「映像制作自体を楽しむ」というためには、「成果を出して、満足感を反芻できる」ということが大切、と考えるようになりました。
基本は映画作りの無料アドバイス
DIY映画倶楽部は、基本的に入会無料。
コントのような動画でも、オリジナルの映画でも、ゼロから作ってみたい、という人は無料のアドバイスを元に、ご自分の作品を作り始められます。
- こういうシーンを作りたいが、方法が思いつかない
- こういう撮影をしたが、上手く合成編集できない
というという場合に、無料でアドバイスしたり、会員料金で実作業を手伝ったりというサポートを受ける事が出来ます。
入会した人は、無料ツールのチャットワークを使って、１対１でやり取りできる他、会員同士で交流するページにもアクセスできます。
メンバー同士の得意分野に合わせて、コラボ作品を生み出す、という可能性も大いにあります。
場合によっては、遠隔地に住む人同士が、一度も会うことなく、撮影素材のやりとりをすることで、「共演作品」を完成させるという、文字通りの離れ業も、技術的には可能です。
実際に、「オーディオドラマ」を作っている人の中には、昔からこのように「会ったことのない人たちと一緒に作品を作る」という手法を採っている人たちもいます。
技術や環境が進化したことで、映像作品でもこれが実現できる筈です。
「撮影をメインにやりたい」「編集をメインにやりたい」という人が組むことで、創作の可能性も広がるかもしれません。

A Demanding Yet Deeply Rewarding Filmmaking Hobby
This is an introduction to the “DIY Film Club,” an idea I have been developing for many years.
The DIY Film Club is a community for people who enjoy making films.
My motivation comes from the fact that I myself have been creating independent films as a hobby for over 30 years, ever since I was around 18. I know how enjoyable it is, and I want to increase the number of people who share this passion for filmmaking.
Compared to the past, we now live in a time when filmmaking tools are extremely affordable—almost free. Anyone can create story-driven videos that resemble movies.
Yet most people have never experienced how fun it can be.
It’s true that filmmaking is “a hassle.”
It’s not the kind of easy entertainment where you can just have a drink and enjoy yourself casually.
So it is certainly not a suitable hobby for people who dislike anything troublesome.
- Building plastic models feels like a hassle
- Going out to take photos feels like a hassle
- Buying ready-made entertainment is enough
For people with that mindset, this hobby will make no sense at all.
However, there are people who understand the joy and satisfaction that come from putting in effort.
- People who attend classes or lessons to enjoy new experiences
- People who train daily to build their ideal body
- People who enjoy building models
- People who practice and present their results at recitals
For people like this, filmmaking is undoubtedly a hobby they can enjoy.
Why Isn’t Filmmaking More Popular?
Despite the fact that video shooting and editing environments are already well established, I’ve often wondered why filmmaking as a hobby hasn’t become as widespread as photography or model building.
Video cameras are already common, and it’s not unusual to use them for travel or school events.
So why don’t more people naturally take the next step and try “making videos”?
Here is my hypothesis:
Because people tend to overuse the video camera’s zoom function, which is inherently difficult to use well, they end up creating large amounts of “unwatchable footage” that causes stress.
As a result:
- “Video isn’t good”
- “Photos are better”
—many people come to this conclusion.
To help those who have had such bitter experiences rediscover the appeal of video, I created and sell an online course that teaches “stress-free video creation” from both the shooting and editing perspectives.
However, I eventually realized that to go one step further—“to enjoy filmmaking itself”—it is essential to “produce results and savor the sense of accomplishment.”
Free Filmmaking Advice at the Core
The DIY Film Club is basically free to join.
Whether you want to create a comedy sketch or an original film from scratch, you can start making your own work based on free advice.
- You want to create a certain scene but don’t know how
- You shot something but can’t edit or composite it properly
In such cases, you can receive free advice or get hands-on help at member rates.
Members can communicate one-on-one using the free tool ChatWork, and they also gain access to a page where members can interact with each other.
There is great potential for collaborative works based on each member’s strengths.
In some cases, people living far apart may exchange footage without ever meeting in person and still complete a “co-starring” project—this is technically possible.
In fact, creators of audio dramas have long used this method of “creating works with people they’ve never met.”
With today’s technology and environment, this should be achievable for video works as well.
If someone prefers to focus on shooting and another prefers editing, teaming up could greatly expand creative possibilities.

Earn a Little Pocket Money Through Your Hobby
Some people insist, “It’s just a hobby, so I won’t take money.”
But the DIY Film Club does not share the foolish idea that “creative work is sacred and one must not sell their soul for money.”
The DIY Film Club introduces a consignment sales system for works you create.
Since this is an adult hobby, the idea is to enjoy incorporating a bit of business as if it were a game.
