グリーンバック撮影をしてクロマキー合成をするというような、ある程度大がかりな合成映像ではなくて、単に写真を撮って、切り抜いて合成するというシンプルなやり方です。

それとほんの一部の映像だけ実物大の模型を作って使うと、表現の幅が広がります。

ニュースでも時々見かける、砂浜にたくさんのイルカが打ち上げられているというシーンから始まるんですね。

当然、イルカは、実物ではなくて、実物大の模型ですらないわけです。

ミニチュアを使って合成しています。まずはできるだけリアルな形でのイルカの模型を作ります。

 

木材や石粉粘土を使って、イルカの模型を作りました。

表面にパテを塗って磨くということを繰り返して、なるべく滑らかな皮膚の感じを出して、それらしい塗装をして仕上げています。

正直、模型の出来としてはレベルは高くないんですが、映像で使う場合、これ以上作り込んでもほとんど品質の差が感じられません。

撮影用の模型作りにはこの「加減」の判断が必要です。

 

基本的にはこの一つの模型を使って、いろいろな角度で写真を撮った写真を切り抜くんですね。

フォトショップのような画像加工ソフトを使って切り抜いて、該当する映像に貼り付ける作業をします。

動画編集ソフトを使うと、動画に切り抜いた写真を綺麗に貼り込めるんです。

 

ただ、このタイプの合成映像というのは、その合成したものに登場人物が触れることはできないんですね。触れているようには見えない。

この作品の中では、「そこにイルカがいる」ということを表現するために触れているカットがいくつかあります。

そのために、ほんの一部分なんですけれども、イルカの体を表現する「実物大のセット」を作りました。

 

実物大のセットは、イルカの皮膚に触れるアップの映像用の模型です。

これだけ見るとなんだかわからないんですけれども、土台となっているのは、材木と段ボール。その表面に薄いグレーのウレタンを貼っています。

塗装しなくていいように、何となくイルカの皮膚の感じが出るような色のウレタンを選んで買ってきて、それを貼り付けています。

 

写真の切り抜きは、合成としてはシンプルであまり難しくはないんですね。

難しくない上に、不自然になりにくいという特徴があります。

こういうシンプルな特撮を使って、思い描いたシーンをなるべくそのままの形で映像化するのに有効なのが特撮技術です。

I made a dolphin model using wood and stone powder clay.

I repeatedly apply putty to the surface and polish it to make it look as smooth as possible, and finish it with a paint that looks like it.

To be honest, the level of the model is not high, but when using it in the video, even if you make it further, you can hardly feel the difference in quality.

It is necessary to judge this “addition and subtraction” when making a model for shooting.

 

Basically, using this one model, you cut out photos taken at various angles.

Use image processing software such as Photoshop to cut out and paste it on the corresponding video.

If you use video editing software, you can paste the clipped photos into the video neatly.

 

However, with this type of composite video, the characters cannot touch the composite. It doesn’t look like you’re touching it.

In this work, there are several cuts that are touched to express that “there are dolphins there.”

For that reason, I made a “life-size set” that expresses the dolphin’s body, although it is only a small part.

 

The full-scale set is a model for close-up videos where you can touch the dolphin’s skin.

I don’t know what it is just by looking at this, but the foundation is timber and cardboard. A light gray urethane is pasted on the surface.

In order not to have to paint it, I bought some urethane in a color that somehow reminded me of dolphin skin, and stuck it on.

 

Cropping photos is simple and not too difficult as a composition.

Not only is it not difficult, but it is also characterized by being less likely to be unnatural.

Using such simple special effects, special effects technology is effective in visualizing the scene you envisioned as much as possible.
