アマチュアが面白い映画を作る方法：プロレベルの技術に頼らずに特撮で異空間を作ろう
技術的にはプロには敵わないという事実
私たちは現実を見なければいけません。
SNSなどではテレビドラマや映画について、やれ脚本が雑過ぎるとか、演出にキレがないとか、批評家気取りで非難する人であふれています。
でも、それらの作品は全てプロの技術で作られたもので、私たちは逆立ちしてもその品質には勝てないんです。
自分で作品を形にしてみればそれが実感できます。
まず間違いないのは、調子に乗って批判している人は、自分で作品を作っていない人です。
自分で作っていれば、全ては参考になりますし、たとえ実際に問題点をはらんでいても、それをプロの技を使って厳しい納期の中で形にしている凄さを感じずにはいられない筈だからです。
高い理想や野心を持って映画製作をすることも大事ですが、私は、アマチュアの未熟さをしっかりと自覚しておくことが、結果としてより良い作品を生むことに繋がると思っています。
小説を例に考えてみてください。
世の中には何十年も経っているのに、いまだに本屋の棚に並んでいるような「名作」があります。
その小説のあらすじを考えてみると、驚くほどシンプルだったり、何も大した事が起きていない日常の話だったりします。
では、「なるほど、あらすじとしてはこんな、何でもない内容でも良いのか」と思ったら、それは大間違いです。
大した事件が無いにも関わらず、名作と呼ばれている小説は、「圧倒的な文章力・小説技法」を駆使して書かれているんです。
これは「プロの技」です。素人が真似できるものではありません。
だから、私たちアマチュアは、足りない魅力をカバーするために、「どんでん返し」を効果的に入れたりして、文章力に頼らなくても出せる魅力でカバーする必要があるんです。
有名な話で、黒澤明監督の「七人の侍」の試写会の席上で、見終わった小津安二郎監督がクスリと笑って「黒澤君は事件が無いと物語を作れないんだね」と言ったとか。
それに対して当の黒澤監督は恥ずかしそうにしていたと言いますから、実際、「何でもない日常を魅力的に描く力」は小津監督の方がずっと上だったという事でしょう。
黒澤明でさえ、「事件」という要素を使って、作品を少しでも面白くしようとしているのですから、私たちアマチュアが、何でもない日常を淡々と描いて、特にオチもないような純文学的作品を作るのは、ちょっと無謀な気がします。
もちろん、中には奇跡のように魅力的な作品もありますが、ほとんどはとても退屈な作品になります。
人に見せない前提のプライベート映画としては大いに作るべきだと思いますし、実は私も時々作りますが、「作品を観てもらって一緒に楽しむ」というような楽しみ方は出来ない作品です。
あえて「奇をてらう」
画家のサルバドール・ダリをご存じでしょうか？
非常に特徴的な画風の絵を残している画家で、画家としての評価は大きく分かれるそうですが、私のような素人にはとても楽しく作品を鑑賞できる、数少ない画家です。
そんな私の趣味にも合うのでしょうが、私が好きな映画の一つに『アルタード・ステーツ/未知への挑戦』（1979年アメリカ）があります。
内容も面白いのですが、劇中で唐突に始まる「幻覚シーン」が好きで、今でも私は自分の作品の中に、アルタード・ステーツのような超常的な幻覚シーンを入れたいと思ってしまいます。
要は、奇をてらうシーンを盛り込むわけです。
これは何も幻覚シーンに限ったことではなくて、異世界や異空間の場面を出すことで、同じような楽しい効果を出すことが出来そうです。
これは私見ですが、異世界のシーンを自主制作映画に取り入れることは、表現力が未熟なアマチュアにとって有効です。
リアリティにこだわった内容だけでは、技術の未熟さが目立ってしまうからです。
非現実的なシーンを盛り込むことで、作品がエンターテイメントのフィクションであることが強調されます。
これによって、観客が割り切って鑑賞しやすくなる利点もあると思うんです。
（「現実にはあり得ない」という謎の批判も減りそうです）
例えば、アニメーション作品などでもよく登場しますが、シンプルな異世界表現としては、「真っ白な部屋」などがあります。
幻覚の世界や、夢の中のシーンなどにも使えそうです。
私たちDIY映画の作家としては、こういう特殊なシーンでこそ、特撮技術を活用すべきです。
馬鹿正直に真っ白な部屋を用意するようなやり方をしていたら、資金がいくらあっても足りません。
私なら画用紙などを使って、A4サイズくらいの「白い部屋」のミニチュアセットを作って、グリーンバック撮影した人物を合成します。
こういう手法は、低コストが魅力なだけでなく、実際に作家のイメージを優先した映像が作れるというメリットがあります。
「異空間」ですから、特撮特有の不自然さも気にはならない筈です。
作品によっては、「風の谷のナウシカ」の「腐海」のような異世界を表現したくなるかもしれません。
もちろん、理想的な撮影場所があればこれに越したことはありませんが、私なら特撮を応用します。
大掛かりなジオラマを作る選択肢もありますが、その手間も省いて、よりリアルな異世界の風景は手に入らないでしょうか？
そのアイデア出しも、映画創作の楽しさの一つです。
例えば、自然の中にある風景を、スケールを変えて眺めてみるのはおススメです。
コケで覆われた地面にカメラを近づけて、「虫の視点」で景色を眺めると、全く違う世界が広がっていることに気付けるはずです。
コケや細かな草の根、粘菌や菌糸、小さな草の蔓など、「腐海」のような世界が、すでにそこにあったりします。
作り物ではないリアリティと自然の造形の面白さを利用できれば、とても面白い場面が出来そうだとは思いませんか？
グリーンバック撮影した人物をこの拡大写真に合成すれば、たちまちスケール感は狂い、足元にあった世界が異世界に化けます。
この異世界では、ナウシカに出てきたようなクリーチャーもぴったりマッチします。
面白ければ勝ち
映画は本来、「見世物」です。
これは歴史的に見ても正しい見解です。
「そんな手法で作ったものは映画とは言えない」という意見はお門違いなんです。
せいぜい
- 私はそういう映画は嫌いだ
- この作品にはこの手法は合わない
ということが言えるくらいです。
ですから、特に私たちアマチュアの映画作家は、自分が面白いと思ったものを作ればいいんです。
プラスして考える余裕があれば、その作品を見せられる人も、作家本人ほどではないにしろ、面白いと思えるように工夫したいよね、ということです。
そのために、技術的にプロに劣る私たちが出来る工夫の一つは、演技や演出の表現力に頼らなくても魅力が発生しがちな「楽しい場面」を、特撮を使って形にしてはどうですか？という提案でした。

Dare to be “strange”
Do you know the painter Salvador Dali?
He is a painter who leaves paintings in a very distinctive style, and although his reputation as a painter seems to be divided, he is one of the few painters whose works can be enjoyed very much by amateurs like me.
One of my favorite movies is “Altered States” (1979 USA).
The content is also interesting, but I like the “hallucination scene” that abruptly begins in the play, and even now I want to include a paranormal hallucination scene like Altered States in my work. Masu.

This is not limited to hallucinatory scenes, but by creating scenes in different worlds and different spaces, it seems possible to create similar fun effects.
This is my opinion, but incorporating scenes from other worlds into independent films is effective for amateurs who are not very expressive.

The inclusion of surreal scenes emphasizes the work’s fiction for entertainment.
I think this also has the advantage of making it easier for the audience to appreciate it.

There is also the option of creating a large-scale diorama, but wouldn’t it be possible to save that effort and get a more realistic landscape of another world?
Coming up with ideas is one of the joys of filmmaking.
For example, it is recommended to change the scale and look at the scenery in nature.
If you bring your camera close to the moss-covered ground and look at the scenery from an “insect’s point of view,” you’ll notice that a completely different world unfolds before you.
There is already a world like “Sea of Corruption”, such as moss, fine grass roots, slime molds, mycelium, and small grass vines.
Don’t you think that if you can use the reality that is not artificial and the fun of natural formations, you will be able to create a very interesting scene?
Combining a person photographed with a green background into this enlarged photograph immediately changes the sense of scale and transforms the world at your feet into a different world.
